I regularly wash all my engines, and am positive that it's the head gasket on both. Both have new good Fel-pro valve cover gaskets and still leak. I will do them when I change cam and lifters. I’ve been getting the oil changed about every 3,000 miles and whatever fixed when it’s needed. Do a compression test to make sure if you hear lots of air coming from the throttle body and low compression on the test that means head gasket failure or a dropped valve seat (welcome to the club!). First thing you do when you buy a rig used is check the coolant for oil in it and rev it out and check for white smoke coming from the tail pipe

Now for the problem: Coolant temp surges to 260 deg on gage. Only cold air will pump out from climate control. Shutting engine down for 30 seconds and then restarting, will sometimes then allow hot air to flow for a few minutes and temp holds at 230 degrees for a little while. Then goes back up again.
4.7L - Cannot find oil leak. I've been chasing a bad oil leak in this engine for a month now, it's got me pretty frustrated. I have replaced the valve cover gaskets, oil fill tube gasket, PCV, crank breathers and front main seal. She is very dry on top and front of engine. The passenger side and starter area is very wet.
