I bought a Rally Raid RRP526 - 40mm lowering link. Seat is still a bit high but now the bike is manageable. Ktm are ridiculous when it comes to seat height. My 690 handles no differently with the lowering link. I am just about 6’ and weigh 196lbs.
If your interests lean more dirt than pavement, between those two it's an easy vote for the 690. Both bikes will do gravel/dirt/fire roads and easy trails but the T7 is going to be more work carrying around additional 100 LBS wet as you go further from the tarmac. The seat height (910 mm) of the 690 seems to a major issue for many. Most shorties tend to give up on the 690 before ever even trying the bike for size. The seat height number is intimidating, I'll give you that. Then again, my previous Tenere was only half an inch lower and weighted over 120 pounds more than the 690.
