This is the world's first 24-105mm f/2.8 zoom. 105mm is 50% longer and 200% more useful than the lame 70mm "tele" ends of 24-70mm f/2.8 zooms. This 24-105mm f/2.8 is a whopper, mostly intended for shooting video.

The sharpness tests for this review were carried out using a real-world subject rather than a test chart. The Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens was attached to a Canon 5D Mark IV body, which in turn was mounted on a sturdy tripod. Self-timer mode was activated. Slight tonal changes are due to slight changes in natural light during the session.

Given Canon’s recent series of home-run lens upgrades, I expected the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 IS II would be a superb lens. I was particularly expecting improvement at 105mm, which was the weak point of the original lens.
Canon also has a 24-70mm f/4 lens, which is available for less than half the price of the f/2.8 version, which is something to consider if you don’t often shoot in low light.
