Design. Bowers and Wilkins has taken the configuration of the CM9 and scaled things down a tad. The recipe is the same. Nautilus tube loaded 1″ aluminum tweeter as in the CM9 but with a smaller FST driver and dual 5″ paper/Kevlar bass units rather than the 6″ FST and 6.5″ bass units for the larger and more expensive CM9.
The L100 speakers have a finely tuned 1-inch pinnacle tweeter and a proprietary 5.25-inch Turbine Cone midrange/bass driver, the combination of which results in an ultra-detailed sound. The frequency range is incredibly wide, too. You're getting lows in the 50Hz range and highs up near 50 kHz. These speakers, if you can afford them, are incredible. The speakers have very good horizontal dispersion and toe-in was minimal—perhaps 5-10º or so. The Bowers & Wilkins speakers’ diamond tweeters, as exceptionally clean and resolving as they could be, did become fatiguing over longer listening sessions, especially when played loudly. I’m quite confident that this is due to Bowers & Wilkins’s intentional voicing of the 805 D4 rather than any potential limitation of the tweeter itself.
